HPC Laser Ltd supporting Bee Strong Bee Manchester fundraising
Bee Strong Bee Manchester
A West Yorkshire Year 9 student, Millie Fraser, wanted to do something to raise money and show support to the victims of last month’s Manchester bombings. Millie had the idea of making Bee pin badges (the symbol of Manchester), and with the help the Art Teacher Megan Needham at her school in Rishworth, near Halifax, laser cut and produced 30 Perspex® Acrylic badges which she sold within an hour of being made.
With many more requests for badges, Millie’s mum Kim soon contacted local businesses for help and a local laser cutting machine supplier, HPC Laser, quickly offered to cut a new batch of 5000 yellow Perspex® acrylic Bee shapes using their industrial lasers. With the help of family and friends this second batch was promptly produced and almost all Bees have already been sold with over £15,000 raised for the Manchester Red Cross appeal.
We spoke to Kim today who had a lined up dedicated team of 40 family and friends to help make a fresh batch of badges to keep up with the extraordinary demand as their campaign continues to grow on social media.
The Bee badges are now being distributed by over 40 local businesses including high street chains and the emergency services for a donation of £5 or more.
Perspex Distribution have been happy to supply more yellow Perspex® acrylic to the campaign to as the team try to keep up with demand as they have high hopes to double their fundraising total in the near future.
Please visit their Facebook campaign page @BeeStrongBeeManchester which will continue to be updated with their latest campaign news and badge distribution points.

HPC Laser Ltd (Laserscript) cw3000 vs cw4000 water chiller units
There are two chiller units that HPC Lasers LTD sells, the cw3000 (suitable for models up to 50w) and the cw4000 unit (suitable for models up to 180w).
The cw3000 uses a fan to blow air onto the water kept in the chiller this means that the water will not necessarily be cooled, in this type of chiller the water temperature will tend to match that of the room.
The cw4000 unit contains refrigerator gasses and does cool the recirculating water circulating
Filling
Both the cw4000 and cw3000 have a capacity of 5 Litres and should be filled to just above the cooling coils
Temperature
Our chiller units are set up to maintain the water temperature at a constant 18 degrees the temperature is likely to increase under intensive use the chiller will alert the user with a beeping sound if the temperature exceeds 21 degrees and will display the error message E02 Should this error message be displayed the laser machine should be stopped immediately and allowed to cool.
If the temperature progressively loses its ability to cool then it may need its refrigerator gasses replacing. HPC Laser LTD can provide this service.
Flow
The chiller unit has its own pump if a chiller unit is fitted the standard pump is no longer required.
The chiller unit monitors the flow rate of water and it will emit a warning sound and display the error message E05 if the flow rate is too low, this could be caused by kinks in the water tubing or blockages in the piping, if the error message is displayed checked all the water pipes for kinks or tight turns and check the water quality, if the water is murky it should be replaced.
Available from UK stock and delivered via courier usually within 2 to 3 working days of your order.

HPC Laser Ltd (Laserscript) co2 Lasers RF and Glass Tubes
Lasers RF and Glass
Tubes
CO2 (carbon dioxide) lasers emit invisible radiation in the
infra-red region of the spectrum, wavelength 10.6 microns. There are several
types mainly RF laser tubes, including solid state versions which cost
typically £3k -£5k and have lifetimes of the order of 6 -10,000 hours. We can
supply these already fitted to our machine, typically doubling the cost of a
600 x 900 mm bed cutter/engraver. They are cooled by blowing air rapidly over
them and can thus be noisy. Obviously they cost several thousand pounds to
replace and re-gas at £1800 -£2000 which with a school budget has been hard to
find for some of our customers.
The lasers we usually use are made of glass and can be replaced for about £250. They last typically 1500 hours but can last much longer. Seven years ago we supplied a machine fitted with such a laser and it is still in regular use, for several hours each day. The tube fitted to a new machine is guaranteed for three months and can be fitted by a reasonably skilled person as, apart from the mechanical holding system, it only requires two simple joints.

The joints
are best sealed with a special silicone compound to reduce the chance of high
voltage breakdowns. Glass tubes are water cooled, using a simple system with a
small pump and reservoir in which the water is allowed to cool before
re-entering the laser. For machines used intensively, say several hours each
day, a water chiller will be needed, ours have a refrigerant and radiator to
chill the water reservoir.
We now can offer a long life selection of tubes with
80watt,100watt,150watt with a lifespan of 10,000 hours this is a first in the
U.K with a competitive price of less than £1500.00 to upgrade with tube and
power supply.

Laser Ply (Laserable plywood)
Due to our commitment to keep production
budgets down and make your life as easy as possible we supply a
range of laser cutter substrates such as laser
ply, perspex, laminates, slate coasters and various other laserable materials.
Our Laser ply has different glue to normal interior or exterior ply, this reduces
the burning marks on the ply itself which should be a light brown and
not really dark and charred looking. Also it reduces the amount of
smoke and goo that comes out when cutting which is better for the
lasers optics and cutting power.
The fumes from the 'normal' product can be harmful and can damage the equipment.
Our plywood has been tested and approved to meets ARB requirements.
